Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
With the annual Amarnath Yatra set to begin on July 3, security arrangements have been intensified in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. Authorities are identifying new locations for additional checkpoints (nakas), especially for night-time vigilance along the pilgrimage route.
During a security audit on Tuesday, DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma directed all officers to strengthen existing nakas and establish new ones where needed. The review covered deployments at base camps, lodgement centres, CCTV setups, parking areas, and major temples including Ram Mandir Purani Mandi and Geeta Bhawan Parade.
CRPF personnel have already begun installing bunkers at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp, the main departure point for pilgrims. The 38-day-long pilgrimage will proceed along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes to the 3,880-metre-high Amarnath shrine.
All SHOs have been instructed to increase night patrolling, and CISF teams have been asked to stay extra alert at key locations. The first batch of yatris will leave from Jammu on July 2, a day before the yatra officially begins.
